Forthcoming Engagements with John Caputo's What Would Jesus Deconstruct?

Caputo_cover_smNext Monday begins a series of engagements with the second book in The Church and Postmodern Culture series by John Caputo entitled What Would Jesus Deconstruct?: The Good News of Postmodernism for the Church.  As Geoff has kindly reminded us in anticipation of the the first book in this series by Jamie Smith, these forthcoming posts will primarily take the form of engagement rather than 'review', "hoping to use this text to spur on deeper thought and thoughtful action."

Likewise, there has been ample anticipation for this book in the form of a conference (Richard Kearney and Tony Jones read the manuscript and give laudatory mentions; see Session 1 part 1, part 2, Session 2, & Session 3 part 1, part 2) and at least a handful of posts in the blog world.

The schedule of engagements on a chapter-by-chapter basis is as follows:

  1. January 07: Adam Miller
  2. January 14: Charlie Lyons Pardue
  3. January 21: Heather Ross
  4. January 28: Clark West
  5. February 04: Tony Jones
  6. February 11: Samuel Ewell

See you next Monday!

...posts here will range from brief “airing of ideas” and the “trying on” of particular theories or critical positions, to longer arguments or analyses soliciting critical responses from readers, all with an eye toward the actual issues confronting church pastors and leaders, rather than the merely academic hair-splitting of abstract issues.
